A song and dance epic produced by the People's Republic of China on the cusp of the Cultural Revolution. "What sort of film would have resulted if, in the mid 1960s, Busby Berkeley, fresh from his gig on 'Jumbo', had been invited by none other than Chairman Mao to realize a project styled 'a song and dance epic', for the benefit of the entire People's Republic of China to digest as a picture show entertainment? Something flashy, but with a message. Something to enliven and uplift the...

Plot [IMDb]... "Waiting for Godot" on ice and snow, without words. Against a barren winter landscape, a figure approaches: it's a man, pulling a small sleigh on which another man sits, plucking a dead bird. They stop to trade places; the one now on the sleigh takes out his knitting. Accidents, misunderstandings, disagreements, and an outright fight await our absurd protagonists as their trip to nowhere continues, first with one pulling, then the other. What if they were to lose the...

Film students and cinema buffs might enjoy this comparison study. Scenes from Tom Laughlin's "The Born Losers" (1967), the biker flick that launched Billy Jack. Some oddities and observations, a censored scene (using scan-and-pan) the uncensored version, plus a "borrowed" stunt scene from a Beach Party flick that no one else seems to have noticed (not even Tom in his detailed audio commentary). Let's get started, shall we? 1. Iconic shot (used in the poster) of super-cute...

This new upload has been converted to a 642MB mpeg4 (mp4) file with no loss in apparent video quality. Air rising into ice pool in waterfall. Ice formed overnight was formed without air among the water and the ice crystals. As ice dam melted in the morning sun, water left the pool and air entered between the ice crystals and the water. The air appeared to rise randomly into the spaces between each ice crystal and the water, making for a wonderful effect. Even though the pool has refrozen tonight with more ice on top, the air remains trapped against the ice crystals in this pattern.

This institutional film was designed to promote Chevrolet's corporate citizenship rather than any specific model of automobile. While it forcefully demonstrates how central automobile manufacturing is to the American economy, it even more strikingly shows the effects of the automobile upon our landscape. Bombastic narration is accompanied by excellent images of automobile manufacturing, the extraction and processing of raw materials from the earth, and mid-1950s consumerism. Cinematography:...
